  • Tarihler: 05 – 07 Eki, 2018

Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University in collaboration with the Australian National University, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and the Çanakkale Foundation invites scholars whose research focusses on the peninsulas of Gallipoli and Troad to propose a paper for its Fifth International Symposium on Gallipoli to be held on October 5-7, 2018 in the city of Çanakkale, Turkey.

With the “Fifth International Symposium on Gallipoli”, Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University and Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University intend to bring together an international meeting on Gallipoli Peninsula & Troad including the ancient city of Troy and the Trojan War as well Gallipoli Campaign of 1915. The aim of this international meeting is to attract specialists and academics from Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, United States, Europe and Turkey. Topics to be addressed include the social, economic, geographic, demographic and military aspects of the Peninsulas, particularly as they are reflected in archival documents, memoirs, newspaper articles, the visual arts, literature, documentaries and film. The archaeological findings on Troy and the other ancient cites are most welcome. It is expected that scholars will address the subject from a range of perspectives based on the original documents, primary sources and archaeological findings.

A central aim of the Symposium is to bring together scholars who will address the broad range of approaches that currently characterize Gallipoli Peninsula and Troad studies so as to develop new understandings of and perspectives on the peninsulas as well the city of Gallipoli and the ancient site of Troy, particularly in association with the strategic importance of the Dardanelles and those empires and states that controlled the Straits throughout history. The study of the Gallipoli Peninsula, Troad and the Straits remains a high academic priority as this region becomes more of a historical and strategic focal point.
