About Language Modules

-Turkish courses at İZÜTEM are given in the fall and spring semesters through modules from A1 to C1.

-Modules are 7 (seven) weeks and 140 (a hundred and forty) hours. There is a final exam in the eight week. Placement tests are held on Thursday before the start of the modules.

- At our IZU Halkalı and Altunizade campuses, 4 (four) hours of lessons are given every day of the week, between 09.00-13.00 / 13.30-17.00 / 17.30-21.00*, for a total of 20 (twenty) hours a week.

-"New Istanbul Turkish For International Students Course Book" books are taught in our Turkish courses.**

-Various written and visual assignments are given during the course period. Film screenings and trips can be made on common dates determined in the modules.

-There are two midterm exams at each level. Written and oral examinations are held in the eighth week after the end of the course.

-A certification exam is held at all levels (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1). The certification exam comprises of two stages as a written exam and an oral exam.

*If there are enough students, the courses are opened during the day.

**Texts from different sources are preferred in academic Turkish lessons.

Our courses are organized according to the language levels determined in the Common European Language Criteria, and the foreseen communication and learner oriented education is conducted.

Beginner Level (A1 – A2)

A1 Level

A person at this level can understand and use the ordinary expressions in everyday life known for concrete needs and very simple sentences. He/she can introduce himself/herself and put questions to other persons about themselves, like where they live, who they know, or what kind of things they have, and can answer these question when asked. If the other people speak slowly and clearly and are helpful, he/she can communicate with them on a simple level.

A2 Level

A person at this level can understand sentences that are related to the areas of direct interest and frequently used expressions (i.e. personal or family information, shopping, work, immediate environment). He/she can communicate in the ordinary situations he/she familiar with and basic situations where there is a simple and direct exchange of information about known things. He/she can describe where he/she is from, educational situation, his/her environment and things directly related to needs in simple terms.

Intermediate Level (B1 – B2)

B1 Level

A person at this level can understand the important points of speech when a clear and standard language is used and when it comes to familiar things like work, school, and spare time activities, etc. He/she can handle most situations encountered in Turkish spoken places. He/she can readily express himself/herself in familiar subjects and areas of interest. He/she can communicate experiences and events; and can tell his/her dreams, expectations, and goals.

B2 Level

A person at this level can understand the content of complex texts on concrete and abstract subjects with the main lines. When it comes to his/her branch, he/she can also understand discussions in these areas. He/she can express himself/herself fluently in ordinary conversations with native Turkish speakers in the way that both parties can understand each other without any significant trouble. He/she can enounce opinions in a clear and detailed way on a wide range of topics, can explain his/her views on a current problem, and describe the advantages and disadvantages of different possibilities.

Advanced Level (C1)

C1 Level

A person at this level can understand rich and long texts on various topics and grasp the logical connections. He/she can express himself/herself fluently without having to search for words often explicitly. He/she can use the language efficiently and flexibly in social life, in business life or in vocational education and higher education. He/she can present a detailed opinion about complex issues in a clear and specific order and meanwhile he/she can link different strategies with other texts as necessary.

Academic Turkish (C1)

You will have the opportunity to improve all language skills (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) at this level and thereby your Turkish level will be close to the native language level.
