Prof. Dr. Vatan Karakaya, Vice Rector of Yıldız Technical University, was the guest of the program titled “The Birth and Development of the Philosophy of Mathematics,” organized by the Mathematics Teaching Department at İZÜ. Held at the Historic Building, Seminar Hall-2, the program addressed the nature of mathematics, its historical development, and its impact on daily life and scientific thought. In his speech, Karakaya stated that mathematics is not merely composed of numbers and formulas; rather, it is a universal discipline that shapes ways of thinking and is based on logic and processes of abstraction. He discussed different philosophical perspectives around the question, “What is mathematics?”
