MTG’25: The Future of Young Engineers Discussed

15.05.2025

Organized by the IEEE Student Club of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (IZU), the MTG’25 event not only provided students with valuable sectoral experience but also highlighted Turkey’s growing success in digital technologies. During the event, IZU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar emphasized Turkey’s advancements in the defense industry and underscored the importance of self-confidence in the field of engineering.

Held at the Nizamülmülk Conference Hall, the MTG’25 program opened with a keynote speech by Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar. Referring to the recent tensions between India and Pakistan, Rector Acar cited the success of Turkey’s domestically developed CORAL system as a powerful example.
“We saw more clearly in this incident how digital technologies can be effectively utilized in defense. Turkey has achieved significant milestones in the defense industry over the past 20 years,” he stated. Stressing the critical role of young engineers, he added, “It is essential that Turkish engineers possess a strong sense of self-confidence.”

Küçük: We Focused on the Digital Campus
IZU Vice Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Prof. Dr. İsmail Küçük, stated:
“Our initial goal was to align students' graduation projects with industrial engineering applications while also fostering a professional network. This year, we adopted a different focus, turning our attention to the concept of a digital campus.”

The event also featured an inspiring talk by Mustafa Mertcan, Founder of DOF Robotics, on the future of artificial intelligence and digital technologies.
“Artificial intelligence shows us how we might be able to think in similar ways,” Mertcan said. Emphasizing the importance of innovative approaches in education, he concluded: “We need to adopt a different perspective when it comes to education.”

The program continued with student presentations of their graduation projects, offering them the opportunity to showcase their technical expertise and receive direct feedback from industry professionals. MTG’25 provided a platform for students to reinforce their technical competencies, explore current industry practices, and establish one-on-one connections with professionals in the field.
