The "1st International Congress on the Science of Teaching and Learning," organized by the IZU Center for the Development and Research of Teaching and Learning (IZU ÖGEM), has begun at the Abdullah Tivnikli Conference Hall.
The congress was attended by IZU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. İbrahim Güney and Prof. Dr. Erhan İçener, Faculty of Education Vice Dean and ÖGEM Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kâmil Arif Kırkıç, as well as academics from both domestic and international institutions.
In his opening speech, IZU Rector Prof. Dr. Ahmet Cevat Acar drew attention to the risks of artificial intelligence and digitalization, emphasizing the need to approach learning processes from multiple perspectives. Rector Acar stated: "Along with different technologies, risks have also emerged regarding personal development. With the advent of artificial intelligence, we can no longer be sure to what extent scientific research is genuinely conducted by the researchers themselves. Especially worldwide, youth unemployment rates are at least twice as high as adult unemployment rates. Smart technologies will also accompany our mental potential. It may become even harder to find jobs. Therefore, continuing our work with current methods in the field of education does not seem feasible. Especially in this digital age, we must consider every possibility when it comes to learning."
THE CONGRESS WILL CONTINUE ONLINE OVER THE WEEKEND
The first speaker of the day, Prof. Dr. Münevver Çetin, highlighted the effects of digital transformation in higher education in her presentation titled "Digital Ecosystem in Higher Education: The Changing Role of Academics and New Generation Teaching Methods."
Prof. Dr. Tuncay Dilci, in his talk on "Problematic Use of Digital Objects," shared insights into the conscious use of digital tools.
Prof. Dr. Selçuk Beşir Demir, in his presentation titled "Mistakes and Solution Suggestions in the Publishing and Writing Process in SSCI-SCI Journals," shed light on the academic publishing process.
In the parallel sessions held simultaneously, participants from various universities presented academic studies related to teaching and learning processes.
The congress will continue with online sessions on April 19–20.
