Important Announcement for Thesis Master's Students whose Normal-Maximum Study Period Will Expire


In the Thesis Master's programs of our Institute, the thesis supervisors of students who have completed the standard study period of four semesters or a maximum study period of six semesters (excluding Scientific Preparation, Registration Suspension, and Additional Time) as of the end of the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year are required to submit the Word version of the thesis to the Thesis Control Team by the end of office hours on Friday, 13 December, 2024, at the latest.

Theses submitted after December 13, 2024, will not be accepted.

The forms for the thesis defense of thesis master's students graduating in the Fall semester must be submitted by the Head of the Department to the Graduate Education Institute by Friday, December 27, 2024.

The thesis master students who will graduate in the Fall semester must take the thesis defense exam by Friday, January 31, 2025.

Requirements for Taking Thesis Defence Exam

  1. Students must have at least seven courses and one Seminar course (a total of 60 ECTS) together with a minimum GPA of 2.50 to take the thesis defense exam.
  2. The title of the thesis determined by the student together with their advisor must be listed in the Campus Information System for the thesis master's program.

Checking for Plagiarism and Compliance with Thesis Writing Rules for Completed Master's Theses

  1. The primary responsibility for the preparation of the thesis in accordance with the Thesis Writing Guidelines belongs to the student and thesis supervisor. Thesis Control Team members are responsible for formal control of the final drafts of theses.

In Case of Period Extension and Failure

  1. Students, who are not able to complete their thesis until mentioned day, within their normal study period of four semesters and extend their thesis submission to the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, are required to pay tuition for one course for the extension period. (No discount will be applied to the tuition fee paid for the extension period.) This situation is also valid for the second extension period.
  2. Students, who have failed in thesis study or have not been able to take the thesis defense exam within the maximum study period of six semesters, will be dismissed from the University.

According to the 1st and 2nd paragraphs of Article 9 of the IZU Graduate Education and Training Regulations;

(1) The duration of the master's program with thesis is four semesters, starting from the semester in which the courses related to the program enrolled in the program are given, regardless of whether they are registered for each semester, except for the period spent in scientific preparation, and the program is completed in a maximum of six semesters.

(2) The student who has failed to complete credit courses and one Seminar course or has not been able to fulfill the success criteria determined by the University, and who has failed in thesis study or has not been able to take thesis defense exam within the maximum period of study will be disenrolled from the University.
