In the PhD programs of our Institute, the thesis supervisors of students, who have completed the standard study period of eight semesters or a maximum study period of twelve semesters (excluding Scientific Preparation, Suspension of Registration, and Additional Time) by the end of the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, are required to submit the Word version of the thesis to the Thesis Control Team by the end of office hours on Friday, December 13, 2024, at the latest.
Theses submitted after December 13, 2024, will not be accepted.
The thesis defense forms of PhD students who will graduate in the fall semester must be submitted by the Head of the Department to the Graduate Education Institute by Friday, December 27, 2024. Students in this situation must fulfill the publication requirement before December 27, 2024.
PhD students who will graduate in the fall semester must take the thesis defense exam by Friday, January 31, 2025.

POINTS TO CONSIDER
- The student must be successful in at least seven courses, a seminar course (60 ECTS), PhD Qualifying (30 ECTS), Thesis Proposal (30 ECTS), PhD Thesis (120 ECTS) periods (240 ECTS in total) and have a CGPA of at least 3,00 to qualify to take the PhD dissertation exam.
- The students enrolled in PhD programs must fulfil at least one of the publication requirements. (Click here for information about publication requirements.)
- The students, who have not submitted their thesis proposal to the Graduate Education Institute through their thesis supervisors on time, will not be able to take the thesis defense exam even if they have completed their thesis.
Control of Plagiarism and Thesis Writing Rules of the Thesis of the Student Whose PhD Thesis is Completed
- The primary responsibility for the preparation of the thesis in accordance with the Thesis Writing Guidelines belongs to the student and thesis supervisor. Thesis Control Team members are responsible for formal control of the final drafts of the theses.

In the Case of the Maximum Period of Study Ends and Failure
- The students, who are not able to complete their thesis until mentioned day, within their normal study period of eight semesters and extend their thesis submission to the Fall Semester of the 2024-2025 academic year, are required to pay tuition for one course for the extension period. (No discount will be applied to the tuition fee paid for the extension period.) This situation is also valid for the other extension periods.
- The students, who have failed in thesis study or have not been able to take the thesis defense exam within the maximum study period of twelve semesters, will be disenrolled from the University.

Finalizing the PhD thesis
ARTICLE 24 - (1) A student in the doctorate program writes the results obtained in accordance with the institute thesis writing guide and defends his thesis orally before the exam jury.
(2) Before the defense of the PhD thesis and in the theses given correction, the student completes the thesis with the correction and submits it to the advisor. The advisor presents the thesis and plagiarism report to the institute with a written opinion that the thesis is defensible and has been written in accordance with the institute thesis writing guide. In case of a real plagiarism in the data in the report, the thesis is sent to the institute board of directors to be decided together with its justification.
(3) In order for the student's thesis to be finalized, three successful thesis monitoring committee reports must be submitted at least every six months. If the thesis monitoring is not done on time, the student is deemed unsuccessful from the thesis monitoring result of that period.
(4) PhD thesis exam jury is appointed with the recommendation of the advisor and the head of the department and the approval of the institute board of directors. The exam jury consists of five faculty members, including three lecturers on the student's thesis monitoring committee including advisor., and at least two of them from outside the University If the advisor is from another higher education institution, the exam jury must consist of one faculty member outside the university and four faculty members inside the university. The institute board of directors decides whether the consultant has the right to vote. If the advisor does not have the right to vote, the exam jury consists of six faculty members. In addition, the second thesis supervisor can take part in the exam jury without the right to vote.
(5) The members of the exam jury gather at the earliest fifteen days and at the latest one month from the date the thesis is delivered to them, and takes the student to the thesis defense. The thesis defense exam consists of the presentation of the thesis work and the question-answer section that follows. Thesis defense meetings are open to the participation of lecturers, graduate students and experts from the field.
(6) After the completion of the thesis exam, the jury of the exam is closed to the audience and it decides to accept, reject or correct the thesis with absolute majority. Students whose thesis is accepted are evaluated as successful. This decision is notified to the institute by the department within three days following the thesis exam. The student whose thesis is unsuccessful and rejected is dismissed from the University. The student, who got a correction advice on his thesis, makes the necessary corrections within six months at the latest and defends his thesis before the same exam jury. The student who fails in this defense is dismissed from the University. Those who have not been successful in the thesis but admitted to the Ph.D with an undergraduate degree, may get according to first paragraph of Article 16 a master diploma without thesis.
