The Importance of Organ Donation Discussed at İZÜ

The İZÜ Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, organized an "Organ Donation Seminar" as part of Organ Donation Week. The program featured representatives from Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic, Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital as speakers. They provided attendees with information on the importance of organ donation, the donation process, and raising public awareness.
The "Organ Donation Seminar," organized by the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nursing, was held in Seminar Room 2. The event was attended by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Dr. Ayşe Nefise Bahçecik, and representatives from the Ministry of Health's Istanbul Mehmet Akif Ersoy Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Training and Research Hospital, who provided attendees with comprehensive information.
In her opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zülfünaz Özer emphasized the life-saving role of organ donation and the need to increase public awareness on the matter. Özer stated, "Organ donation is one of the most sacred ways for a person who has passed away to give life to another. One person's decision can change dozens of lives and rekindle hope."
Organ Transplant Coordinators from Mehmet Akif Ersoy Hospital, Specialist Nurse Gamze Ataman Yıldız and Nurse Sıdık Biricik, shared insights on organ donation and transplantation processes. Yıldız explained the legal aspects of organ donation, the transplantation process, requirements for donation, brain death, and donor care. She highlighted that Turkey is a global leader, particularly in live donor donations.
As part of the event, a booth set up by the Ministry of Health allowed university students to fill out forms to become organ donors.
