Mehmet Bulut is Professor of Economics and Economic History. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Utrecht (2000) in the field of Economic History. He has taught at Baskent University and served as Chair of Department of Economics and member of the Board of Directors in Faculty at the same Institution. He began to serve as the Dean of Faculty of Political Sciences and became Vice-President at Yildirim Beyazit University in 2011. He became the member of Turkish Academy of Sciences (TUBA) and was elected by the Rectors of Turkish Universities and appointed by the President of Republic of Turkey to the Board of Council of Higher Education (Turkey) in 2012. Currently he is the President of İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. He is working on long-term (longue durée) economic changes and development, economic performance comparisons between countries, the economic reasons for the differences, the international political economy, the Ottoman-European-Atlantic Economic Relations, Economic History, History of Economic Thought, economic and financial Institutions. As a visiting scholar he has been to Dalarna (Sweden), Cambridge (England), Harvard and Princeton (United States) Universities. He is the Editor in Chief of the international referred Journals such as Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance and Journal of Adam Academy of Social Sciences.

 

İbrahim Güran Yumuşak completed his undergraduate and postgraduate at Istanbul University, Department of Economics. Then, he completed his doctorate with thesis titled “Human Capital Theory and the Role of Human Capital in Economic Development” at Istanbul University in 2000. His academic articles have been published in national and international journals such as The Middle East Business and Economic Review, The JKEM, Journal of Economic and Social Studies, Humanities & Social Sciences Review (HSSR) and International Journal of Knowledge Economics and Management. His interests and areas of study; Knowledge Economy, Economy of Turkey, Islamic Economics. He continues to work as the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Management Sciences at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

 

Metin Toprak is a professor at the Department of Economics at Istanbul S.Zaim University. He served as vice president at Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency and deputy chairman of the Competition Authority. He has worked as a scholar at Kirikkale, Eskisehir Osmangazi, and Istanbul Universities. He was on duty at Georgetown University for one academic year, and at the International University of Sarajevo for three years as a visiting professor and vice-rector responsible for research and international relations. He has been a member of the National Team of Bologna Experts since 2009. He served as the chief commissioner at CoHE Qualifications, Quality Assurance and Accreditation Commission (YOKAK), member of the Ethics Board on Research and Publication at TUBITAK and chair of the ethics board for social sciences and humanities (CoHE), rector of University of Turkish Aeronautical Association, vice president at National Center for Measurement, Selection and Placement. His fields of interest are Islamic economics, financial economics, applied economics, political economy, organizational restructuring, higher education reforms.

 

Abdelkader Chachi is an Assistant Professor of Islamic Economics and Finance, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, since 2017. Before that he worked at the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) (2008-2017), the Centre for Research in Islamic Economics (CRIE) and the King Abdul-Aziz University (2003-2008), the Islamic Foundation, UK (1990-2003). He has more than 30 years of experience in research, teaching, and training in Islamic economics, banking, and finance and of publication, translation, editing, typesetting, event organizing, etc. He has a Ph.D. in Banking & Finance from Wales University, UK, Diploma of Advanced Studies in Economic Development from Manchester University, UK and BA in commercial and financial sciences from Algiers University, Algeria. Additionally, he has many refereed and non-refereed articles, book reviews and reports. 

 

Abdulmuttalip Arpa is an Associate Professor in Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Department of Basic Islamic Sciences. He received his PhD in Basic Islamic Sciences from Necmettin Erbakan University (2009). He published numerous papers in national and international journals such as ASOS Journal, Journal of Şırnak University Faculty of Theology (Şırnak Üniversitesi İlahiyat Fakültesi Dergisi), Academic Research Journal, JASSS. He served as the deputy dean and head of the department at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. His areas of expertise are Tafsir Method, Linguistics, Semantics, Foreign Language Education Methods, Islamic Economics.

 

Ruslan Nagayev (Adam) has obtained his BA degree in Business Administration from Misr University for Science and Technology (Egypt) in 2004. He begins his career in the oil industry at a multinational company. Within four years of his working experience, he advanced from the position of Cost Control assistant to Chief Internal Auditor. He obtained Master's degree in 2010 and PhD in 2017 both on Islamic Finance at INCEIF. He received the President’s Award for the best PhD. During the period of his study, he got teaching experience at the University of Kuala Lumpur, worked on multiple projects, and conducted workshops and training sessions. Currently, he is Assistant Professor at the Department of Islamic Economics and Finance in Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University (Turkey). He is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Islamic Economics and Finance (JIEF) and Deputy Director of ISEFAM. He has produced several academic publications. His research interest falls in Islamic Finance, capital markets, and applied econometrics.

 

Ahmet Tabakoğlu is a Professor at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Department of Islamic Economics and Finance. He holds his doctorate at Istanbul University, Department of Economics. His academic articles have been published in various national and international journals such as Journal of Islamic Economics, Journal of Islamic Law Studies (Islam Hukuku Araştırmaları Dergisi), Studies on Turkish-Arab Relations. He took part in various administrative positions such as Head of Department and Institute Manager at Marmara University. He has more than 20 books. His areas of expertise are Economic History, Islamic Economics, and Istanbul History.

 

Burhan Uluyol is an Associate Professor at the Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and recipient of Outstanding Young Scientists Award by Turkey Academy of Sciences (2018-2021). Previously, he was Associate/Assistant Professor and Senior Lecturer at International Islamic University Malaysia and University Kuala Lumpur, Respectively. As a young Academician, he has published 4 books, 11 book chapters, almost 55 SCOPUS & ISI indexed journal publications and attended more than 40 International and local conferences. He was awarded by the IIUM for publishing highest number of articles in citation-indexed journals in social science category in year 2017. He is named for top 1% reviewer in years 2018 and 2019 by Publons (WoS). His research interest is the empirical studies of Islamic Banking and Finance.

 

Mohamed Cherif el-Amri is an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Business and Management, Department of Islamic Economics and Finance. He completed his PhD program at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Institute of Islamic Banking and Finance (2017). His academic article “The Treatments of Household Default Debts via Arbitration and its Application in the Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Center” has been published in the Journal of Arbitration. His areas of expertise are Islamic banking, Islamic finance, Islamic Capital Market, Islamic Commercial Law.

 

Monzer Kahf is currently Professor of Islamic Finance and Islamic Economics, Faculty of Management and Economics at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Istanbul, Turkey. He taught at the graduate program of Islamic Finance at Hamad Bin Khalifa University in Doha Qatar, 2008-2018 and the graduate program of Islamic economics and banking, School of Shari’ah, Yarmouk University, Jordan, 2004-2005.He served as a senior research economist at the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI) of the IDB Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 1995–1999 and was a visiting professor at the graduate program of Islamic finance, the International Center for Education of Islamic Finance, INCEIF, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, summer 2010. He has 35 books, more than 80 published articles and scores of conference and encyclopedia entries on Islamic finance and banking, Awqaf, Zakah and other areas of Islamic economics.  He provides consultations and advises to Islamic Banks and Fatawa online in Islamic finance and economics. He was awarded the IDB Prize for Islamic Economics, 2001 and the President of Syria Award for best University Graduating Student, July 1962.

 

Mustafa Çakır is an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences, Department of Economics (30% English). He obtained his PhD from the University of Johannesburg, Faculty of Economics (2013). His academic articles have been published in various national and international journals such as Adam Academy Journal of Social Sciences, Turkish Economic Review, Journal of Applied Economic and Econometric Research. He took part in Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University as Head of Department, Vice Dean and many administrative positions. His areas of expertise are Islamic Economy, Economy of Turkey, Money and Capital Markets, Macroeconomics.

 

Tariqullah Khan is a Professor of Islamic Finance and Economics, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. Before that he worked as Professor and Manager of the Islamic Finance Program at College of Islamic Studies (CIS) Hamad bin Khalifa University. He also worked as the Division Chief of Islamic Banking and Finance at the Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Jeddah. He has contributed several research papers in the areas of ethics and finance, risk management, regulation, supervision, financial stability, and Islamic financial sector development, developed several international flagship conferences in these areas, presented papers and lectures, and edited conference proceedings. He served as a Visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School in the summer of 2011. He holds a BA and MA degrees in Economics from Karachi University, Pakistan, and a Ph.D. degree from Loughborough University, United Kingdom. 

 

Turan Erol holds a PhD degree in Economics from Tinbergen Institute/Erasmus University, the Netherlands. His core interest is international finance and capital markets. He was awarded the best Turkish economy research in 2003 for the work on exchange rate exposure. He served as board member and chairman of the Capital Markets Board of Turkey between 2003-2009 and as chief adviser to the Prime Ministers between 2009-2018. He has also actively involved in corporate sector since 2010 as board member and consultant at leading Turkish companies like THY and its affiliates, Aselsan and Ostim Investment. He has a broad specialization from corporate management to financial markets and economic and industrial policy. He has a diverse working experience at government, companies, and academia. He also participated numerous international conferences, workshops, and specialized committees of international organizations like International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) and the World Bank during his tenures. He also led European Union capital markets harmonization program.

 

Yusuf Dinç started his participation banking career in Albaraka Türk Participation Bank in 2007. He joined Duke University Faculty of Law as a researcher in 2015 and worked as an Assistant Professor at Trakya University between 2016-2017. He has many books, articles, and publications on Islamic finance, banking, shadow banking and insurance. He also executed national and international projects in the field of interest-free finance. Since 2017, he has been a faculty member of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Department of Islamic Economics and Finance. He currently advises several financial institutions.

 

Zeyneb Hafsa Orhan received her PhD in Economics from the International University of Sarajevo. Her doctoral dissertation deals with the risk analysis of profit and loss sharing instruments in Islamic banking (participation banking). She has been working at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences since Fall 2015. The main areas of work Orhan, who received the title of associate professor in the field of banking and insurance, are comparative finance and banking, and the connection of Islamic finance and banking with the Islamic economy.

 

Abdalrahman Migdad is an Assistant Professor at Istanbul Sabahatin Zaim University. He received his education in Palestine, the US, Japan, and completed a Post-doc in Turkey. He received his Ph.D. from Doshisha University - Kyoto, Japan, from the School of Global Studies where he focused on Human Economic Security (HES), and social Islamic economics. At the same time, he completed an advanced doctoral program in Global Resource Management. Dr. Migdad has multiple publications and possesses research interests in social economics, political economy, Islamic economics, poverty eradication, and Islamic social finance. The referent object in his research is the “Human.” The interest in doing research circles specifically around Human Economic Security (HES); a concept Dr. Migdad worked on in his Ph.D. and wished to develop it further, alongside Islamic Social Finance (ISF). Harun Adams Babangida is a faculty member of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Faculty of Business and Management Sciences since 2015. He is graduated from the Christian Service University College of Ghana, the Marketing Department in 2008. He completed a master's program (2009-2011) at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Gana and his master thesis is on “Bank Selection Criteria among Students in Ghana”. In addition to marketing, which is his area of expertise, he is interested in brand management, consumer behavior, marketing communication, public relations, and service marketing. He contributed some articles on the effect of culture on work and housing satisfaction fields. 

 

Metin Pişkin earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Istanbul Technical University in 2018. During 2017, He was a visiting scholar at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He conducts research on transport investments, free trade agreements and the economic impacts of unexpected events such as earthquake, and on empirical, spatial computable general equilibrium models.

 

Özgür Kökalan is the chair of the Business Administration Department at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. He completed his Ph. D in Business Management and Organization program from Istanbul University (2010). He worked as a research assistant at Istanbul Bilgi University (2010-2016). His specialization areas are organizational behavior, strategic management, and entrepreneurship. He has over 20 academic articles published in different national and international journals and books. His articles have been published in academic journals such as Quality & Quantity, Transportation Research Record, Management Research Review, Middle East Journal of Management, Advances in Operational Research, Sigma, International Journal of Business and Management.

 

Haşmet Gökırmak worked as research assistant at Istanbul Technical University. He completed his doctorate (Ph.D.) study in Industrial Organization and International Economics in the Department of Economics at American University. He attended George Mason University Business School and received an MBA degree in Business Development and Marketing. He took part in projects related to transportation and energy in various organizations, such as the World Bank, Science Applications International Corporation, HLB Associates, and Nexant in America. After returning to Turkey, he served as Deputy General Manager of Erdemir Logistics. He directed the first private rail freight transportation project in Turkey. He served as the head of Business Development and International Agreements Departments at Turkish Airlines. He managed the Star Alliance accession process of Turkish Airlines. After serving as the Chief Operating Officer at the Star Media Group, he worked as a lecturer at various universities.

 

Nicoleta İsac is an Assistant Professor at İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University where she is researcher and teaching at undergraduate and master program. She graduated from University of Pitesti with bachelor’s degree in Management and MBA in Strategic Management of Human Resources. After graduation, she completed her PhD in Management at Bucharest University of Economic Studies, Romania. From 2004 she is in education system at University of Pitesti in the department of Business Administration. She is currently working at İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, Turkey as Assistant Professor. She published more than 50 research paper in international Journals, published four books, presented more than ten research papers in International Conferences, and completed four projects funded by European Union Commission and a BAP project at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.   

 

Nurgül Sevinç has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Degree in Economics from İ. D. Bilkent University and Master of Science (MS) Degree in Economics from TOBB University of Economics and Technology. She continues her doctoral study on Islamic Economics and Finance at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. She is also Research Assistant in the same department. She has years of experience as research assistant in different universities. Her research interests are Islamic Social Finance, Development Economics and Political Economy. She has publications in addition to research in progress in journals such as Applied Economics and Economic Modelling.

 

Ozan Maraşlı is working as a research assistant in Islamic Economics and Finance Department at IZU. After graduation from Business Administration Department at Bilkent University in 2014, he completed his Master of Arts in Economics department at Istanbul Technical University. He pursues his PhD study in Islamic Economics and Finance at IZU, as his field of interest is Islamic economic and financial policies in Turkey.

 

Safa Yıldıran completed his bachelor's degree at University of Economics and Technology of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) in 2017. During the same year, he started a master's program in the Department of Economics at Boğaziçi University. He got his master's degree in 2020. Currently, he is a Ph.D. candidate and working as research assistant in the department of Islamic Economics and Finance at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

 

Salih Doğanay is currently working as Research Assistant in the Department of Economics at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. He graduated with honor from the Department of Economics.  He also worked as a specialist in the Ministry of Economy responsible for high-tech automotive and defense industry and agricultural investment projects in Department of Government Incentives and Foreign Capital. He represented the Ministry in many official meetings and supervised many firms’ investment and evaluated their performance and investment projects. His works also involves communication with sector-leading investors and preparation of reports for formulating the right action to develop the region, investments, and employment.

 

Rıfgı Buğra Bağcı graduated from Tokat İMKB Teachers’ Training School in 2010. He completed his B.A in the Department of Translation and Interpreting Studies in Boğaziçi University and work in private sector in 2016. He graduated in MBA studies in İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University in 2020. Currently, he works as Research Assistant at İstanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. He speaks English, Spanish and Japanese.

 

Mahmut Demirkıran: He completed his bachelor's degree at Yildiz Technical University. He completed his undergraduate thesis entitled "cultural adaptation problems of Turkish students participating in the Erasmus program after returning to Turkey". Currently, he continues his education at Yildiz Technical University, Institute of Social Sciences, Master's degree in Business Management with thesis. Demirkiran is a Research Assistant at Faculty of Business and Management Sciences in Sabahattin Zaim University. His research interests are Organizational Behavior, Management and Organization, Human Resource Management.

 

Fatma Yılmaz graduated from Necmettin Erbakan University, Department of Banking in 2018. Currently, she is studying master’s in Islamic Economics and Finance at the Social Sciences University of Ankara (ASBU). She has experience in Kuveyt Turk Participation Bank, Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries (SESRIC) and Finance Office of the Presidency of Turkey. She is currently working as a Research Assistant at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University. She is interested in Islamic finance, agricultural economics, development economics and sustainable economy fields.
