A Comprehensive and Exclusive Scholarship Program
for 20 PhD Students
who meet the eligibility criteria, offering:
a 100% tuition scholarship plus a monthly cash stipend and additional benefits,
funded by Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and the İlim Yayma Foundation

 

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

  • 100% Tuition Scholarship: Full exemption from tuition fees.
  • Monthly Cash Stipend: TRY 60,000 per month.
  • Compulsory General Health Insurance Coverage.
  • Meal Scholarship: Free lunch at the University dining hall.
  • Guesthouse/Dormitory Scholarship: Full exemption from accommodation fees (including meals) for students residing in Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University guesthouses or dormitories operated by the University's founding foundation, the İlim Yayma Foundation.

 

NUMBER OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND DURATION

  • The Scholarship for Training Academics will be awarded to 20 doctoral students in total: 10 from the Natural Sciences and 10 from the Social Sciences.
  • The Scholarship for Training Academics is awarded for 12 months each year and continues throughout the standard duration of the PhD program (four years), subject to the continuation requirements.

 

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Apply to any PhD program at the IZU Graduate Education Institute,

(To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be admitted to and enroll in the program to which they have applied.)

  • Provide proof of not being employed in any paid position by submitting a Social Security Registration and Service Record (SGK Registration and Service Record) [Applicable to Turkish citizens only],
  • Be willing to participate in and contribute full-time to the educational, teaching, and research activities of Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University.

ALES Score

  • Applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 80 on the ALES.
  • Alternatively, applicants may qualify with an equivalent score of 156 on the GRE or 590 on the GMAT, as recognized in lieu of the ALES.
  • International applicants are not required to submit an ALES, GRE, or GMAT score. However, applicants who submit a GRE or GMAT score will have their scores converted into the ALES equivalent and evaluated accordingly.

 

Grade Point Average (GPA)

  • Undergraduate GPA: Applicants must have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 on a 4.00 scale.
  • Master's GPA: Applicants must have a minimum master’s GPA of 3.50 on a 4.00 scale.

 

Foreign Language Proficiency

  • For Turkish-medium programs, applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 70 on the YDS, YÖKDİL, or e-TEP for the relevant foreign language, or an equivalent score on an internationally recognized foreign language examination recognized by ÖSYM.
  • For programs offered wholly or partly in a foreign language, applicants must have obtained a minimum score of 80 on the YDS, YÖKDİL, or e-TEP in the relevant foreign language, or an equivalent score on an internationally recognized foreign language examination recognized by ÖSYM.

 

SELECTION AND EVALUATION CRITERIA

  • The evaluation and selection of scholarship applicants will be carried out by the Scholarship Evaluation Committee, consisting of two academics appointed by Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University and one member appointed by the İlim Yayma Foundation.

HOW TO APPLY? 

For Turkish Citizens

Applicants who wish to apply for The Scholarship for Training Academics must submit the following documents by 5:00 p.m. (Istanbul Time) on 28 August 2026 via email to ayb@izu.edu.tr.

  1. ALES, GRE, or GMAT score report.
  2. Official undergraduate transcript showing the undergraduate GPA.
  3. Official master's transcript showing the master's GPA.
  4. Foreign language proficiency certificate.
  5. Social Security Registration and Service Record (SGK Registration and Service Record) certifying that the applicant is not employed in any paid position.

For International Students

Applicants who wish to apply for The Scholarship for Training Academics must submit the following documents by 5:00 p.m. (Istanbul Time) on 26 July 2026 via email to ayb@izu.edu.tr.
