Social Work discipline and profession which provides advocacy to protect human dignity, worth of persons and social equality of all people regardless of their race, skin colour, gender, language, social class has an active role in ensuring the desired social changes in the world in accordance with universal values.
Social Work is an academic discipline and profession that focuses on individuals and societies based on human rights and social justice. Its main purpose is to contribute to enhancement of social functionality of individuals, families, groups and societies; helping them to solve their problems as well as empowering and liberating them to reach their potentials.
Accordingly, producing, developing and implementing policies in order to overcome social problems such as poverty, deprivation, unemployment, dependence, addiction, violence and crime can be listed as the most important roles of social workers.
The Social Work Department at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, started admitting students in 2013-2014 academic year, and it has already been successfully placed in the top ranks in terms of the admission grades and student capacity. The main purpose of the program is to educate qualified social workers and researchers who are needed in the fields and in academia, with strong knowledge and skills within the light of main scientific principles in their chosen area.
