Our Campus from the Past to Today
Images from Our Campus
Around 130 years ago (122), Halkalı Agriculture and Veterinary School (Halkalı Ziraat ve Baytar Mekteb-i Alisi) was founded on our campus' land of of 630x1000 m2. The school's education level was the same as today's universities. One of the first graduates was our National poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy, and the campus continued giving education for different educational institutions up until 2005. Before our University was founded, this historical campus was used as Halkalı Agricultural Production Administration, Agricultural Development and Service Training Directorate (Halkalı Zirai Üretim İşletmesi Tarımsal Yayım ve Hizmet İçi Eğitim Merkezi Müdürlüğü). Today, once again, it has become a home of education for new students. In this campus, where advanced level of agricultural education was given around 130 years ago, we continue to provide higher education. We use this historically precious campus in which Mehmet Akif studied; to raise virtuous and leader individuals who will serve for humanity and shape the prospects of the future. This is mindset we preserve and we are proud of it.
The construction works for Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University's Halkalı Central Campus have been ongoing since 2010. In addition to the renovation works for the buildings which have been trademarked as historical, we have also started building new faculty and accommodation buildings in the space that is available for further construction. Our main focus for these buildings works on campus has been preserving the historical and natural texture. The historical trees have been site surveyed and are being preserved, the historical buildings are being renovated, and there are ongoing building works for the agriculture museum and conference hall which will serve our students and public. The courtyard surrounded by Halkalı Agriculture and Veterinary School buildings and historical trees will be the heart of our campus. The new faculty buildings and accommodations are being built according to this courtyard with a focus on preserving the texture. Our campus' view after the construction works can be seen in the simulations below.
